This week Community Vision joined the City of San Pablo and the San Pablo Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in the grand opening of the Rumrill Sports Park!

The City of San Pablo, one of the poorest communities in Contra Costa County, experiences high levels of youth obesity and violence. As physical fitness outlets and opportunities are limited in the community, the San Pablo Economic Development Corporation (EDC) transformed a vacant, 4.5 acre brownfield site in a dense urban neighborhood into a flourishing new park.  The park features a soccer field complex with 3 synthetic turf and full striped fields. The facility includes 62 parking spaces, a picnic area, tot lot, restroom building, and dedicated food cart area for vendors selling fruits, vegetables and healthy snacks.  .

Community Vision provided consulting services as well as $7.5 million in New Markets Tax Credits financing towards a total project budget of $10.4 million to develop the park.

This complex will provide opportunities for San Pablo youth and adult soccer leagues to use the fields and will serve as a gathering place for families, in a community where recreational facilities and open spaces are limited.
