Challenges and Strategies for Financing Arts and Culture Projects

Description: Spaces that support the arts, culture and the creative economic drivers as vital options that build social and civic capital. The roundtable discussion brings together a range of perspectives on the importance of the creative economy, the challenges facing art and cultural real estate projects, and strategies for addressing them. You will learn about a new report that identifies $1.5 billion in creative community development projects over the next five years. Two CDFIs, a nonprofit development company, and a foundation will share their experiences working in cultural communities from Oakland to Baltimore. The session will address the following topics: 1) making the case for the importance of the arts and creative placemaking as a community development strategy, 2) mitigating the challenges facing artists in both strong and weak markets, 3) the role CDFIs can play in supporting creative spaces.
