Causa Justa :: Just Cause is a multi-racial, grassroots community and leadership building organization whose mission is to achieve justice for low-income San Francisco and Oakland residents. Through a membership-driven model of community organizing, policy advocacy, civic engagement, and service provision, the organization seeks to build a movement for social justice based on a platform of multiracial unity between the African American and Latino communities.

Causa Justa :: Just Cause is the result of the merger of Just Cause Oakland and St. Peter’s Housing Committee, two organizations that have historically defended tenants’ and immigrant rights in Oakland and San Francisco’s Mission District. The organization provides free tenant counseling and case management for low-income residents of Oakland and San Francisco through their Housing Committee/Tenants’ Rights Clinic.  All services are available in both English and Spanish. Causa Justa :: Just Cause has a staff of 18 spread across three offices in West Oakland, East Oakland, and the Mission District with an annual budget of about $1.2 million.

Although Causa Justa :: Just Cause was forged from two well-established organizations, they felt it would be  prudent to have a line of credit in place to ensure smooth cash flow should any unexpected challenges arise. With this in mind, the organization turned to NCCLF for a $100,000 line of credit. While they have no plans to draw on the credit line in the immediate future, having a revenue stream readily available to Causa Justa :: Just Cause brings assurance to the organization that they will be able to meet the needs of their communities even in difficult times.
